When I was a youngster
many years ago, the old man took us kid’s rabbit trapping in the
Harvey
Ranges out the back of Molong
NSW in the 1928 Chevy. While picking up some bunnies a big red roo
managed to come into view, dad got the rifle out and had a shot, the
bullet grazed the roo’s paw. Dad felt sorry for the big red roo so he
went up and tied his hanky around the roo's wound. Many years later we
went back to Harvey
Ranges for holidays and went
back out to the mountain rabbiting for old time’s sake, later in the day
after sinking a few beers from the Esky dad said "bugger me I think
that’s the same old red roo we shot a few years back!" I said "How would
you know?" "Dad said watch! And with that the big roo took the hanky out
of his pouch "blew his nose" and hopped away! Believe it or not. |
