Back in the early 50’s my cousins and I were trapping along the banks of the Macquarie River when my oldest cousin decided to go fishing, so using rabbit gut he baited up a line and threw it in the river. As it was dark at the time he decided to check it out the next morning. So after breakfast, down to the river we went to see if he caught anything. Hoping for a Yellow Belly or a Murray Cod, he called us over to see the line in the river; it was moving sideways up and down unlike a fish! It was a hell of a fight for a freshwater catch! Well, my cousin pulled the line in and couldn't believe his eye’s...Here was a bloody fox on the end of the line! We worked out that the river being low...When he tossed the line in it didn't go in the river, it went over to the other side of the bank; and sometime during the night the fox picked it up, got hooked and fell in the water. Well after we got up of the ground laughing, we let the fox go; he had a hard enough time. That was one very pissed off fox. True story. Believe it or not.
